December through early April

Maximum of four anglers per week

SPECIES
Brown, rainbow and brook trout

GENERAL INFORMATION
The diversity of water in this fishery provides many opportunities to fish your choice of large dries, terrestrials, nymphs, or streamers in both still and moving water. There is so much water that it would be virtually impossible to fish it all in a single season - much less a single week!

LENGTH OF STAY
A standard package at Nic Fin is Sunday through Saturday (6 nights and 5 days of fishing.)

THE FISHING
Guests can expect to fish a variety of still and moving waters during their flyfishing adventure with Nic Fin in Patagonia, Chile. Their guide service is extremely flexible, and the guides carefully consider the weather and various factors that govern the daily and weekly choice of waters and the techniques that are most productive.

One of the strongest attributes of this operation is that Nic Fin Outfitters is not locked into one single river system; they are much more mobile and flexible than the traditional “Fixed Lodge” concept. Nic Fin covers the waters from the stunningly beautiful National Park of Cerro Castillo, through the Simpson Valley and through the Valley of the Moon. These places mentioned might not mean anything to you now, but they will after a big brown trout comes completely out of the water to eat your dry fly! Nic Fins overall fishery consists of floating down some of the most spectacular rivers in the world, as well as covering some of the region’s aqua-blue glacier-fed lakes. Dragonfly patterns and beetles produce unbelievable takes by some of the biggest browns you will ever see. Sight-casting to rainbows sipping mayflies on the seams and throughout the tail-outs can be deadly as well.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED
Nic Fin has developed a specialized method of river transportation with custom built-jet “catboats.” These boats have been designed for the angler's comfort, offering superior river navigation and maximum safety. Some will testify that these boats are as - or more - comfortable than modern drift boats. Complete with swivel seats, knee brace in front, and modern anchor system, these boats are stealthy and go where no other boat can. Propelled with an outboard jet engine, these boats can float quietly downstream and return upstream when desired. With these boats, the guides of Nic Fin will provide transportation, fun, and a full day of flyfishing up and down each river!

THE LODGING
On Sunday, Monday and Thursday of each lodge week, guests will stay at Nic Fin’s private Tamango Lake Lodge, located in the Cerro Castillo National Park area. Each room has a fire place, two oversized double beds, and a private bath. Breakfast, dinner and cocktails will be served in the lodge each day “Chilean style.” Monday night you will experience a traditional Asado – the Patagonia version of a barbeque.
From Wednesday night through Saturday, you will be in the town of Coyhaique. Wednesday evening you arrive at Nic Fin’s family lodge in Coyhaique. Each room has a fire place and two oversized twin beds. Meals will be served in the main lodge. Chilean and American-style breakfast will start at 7:30 AM each morning. Dinner will start around 8:30 PM with great appetizers and fine Chilean red and white wines.

HOW TO GET THERE
An impressive, scenic flight on a 737 jet from Santiago, with a stop in Puerto Montt, travels along the incredible Chilean Andes and brings you to Balmaceda and a spectacular, awesome new world. The Aisén District, a narrow strip of land within an entanglement of islands, fjords, bocas, and channels, appears to drop into the Pacific Ocean. Thousands of Glaciers and waterfalls pool to form deep lakes and then flow through reed-lined channels, wild rivers, and dark canyons. These peaceful depths of Chilean Patagonia are home to an abundance of healthy, resident brown trout and some rainbows.

Overnight Flights from the United States to and from Santiago are available on American Airlines, Delta or LanChile. From there you fly by LanChile 737 jet to Puerto Montt and Balmaceda, followed by a drive to the lodge.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
You will need a valid passport to enter the country of Chile. Citizens of the United States, Canada, and the UK do not need a visa unless they plan on staying for more than three months. There is a one-time entrance fee for US Citizens of $100.00 USD, which is the same fee that the US charges Chileans to enter the United States.

NON-ANGLING ACTIVITIES
Patagonian Chile has much to offer the non-angler, and there is a great deal more to explore than just the trout fisheries. The guides and owners of Nic Fin can offer fun-filled and interesting activities and experiences for the non-fishing guest as well as for the angler. Some of the many activities include flora and fauna tours, horseback riding, hiking, scenic raft trips, and general tours throughout the region. More relaxing pursuits include wine-tasting, bird-watching, local shopping, cultural tours, and photography safaris.
